COFFIN HUNTING ON THE GOLD COAST OF AFRICA

A little while back my good friend Jack and I embarked on a journey to the Gold Coast of Africa in search of coffins for a show Jacks putting together in December at his gallery.
No compass in hand, we kissed our women goodbye and headed for Ghana. Along the way we went surfing at Three Point, met the coffin makers of Teshie, the Fisherman of Dixcove, the boxers of Jamestown and the horse riding gymnast's of Labadi Beach. The coffins were mind blowing, made to celebrate the legacy of the withheld and finished with the most intricate detail.
Although driving eight hours at night on a Ghanian highway with a half blind driver still gives me nightmares it was an incredible trip. Beautiful scenery, amazingly warm hearted people and the home of Fu Fu, Ghana sure as fuck is the pearl of West Africa's crown!
